This paper was a multisite survey of internal medicine residents aimed at exploring trainee well-being from a more holistic perspective using the lens of flourishing. Flourishing incorporates aspects such as meaning, purpose, virtue, and social relationships into the model of well-being, in addition to physical and mental health, and life satisfaction. Resident flourishing was positively associated with work-life balance, viewing medicine as a calling, the residency program’s community well-being, and intrinsic religiosity, and inversely related to domains of burnout.
