I am pleased to announce that Dr. Dominique Cosco has agreed to accept the role of Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Washington University School of Medicine/Barnes-Jewish Hospital. As you know, Dr. Cosco assumed the responsibility of Interim Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program in March of this year. Since that time, she has done an impressive job of filling the shoes of our outstanding former Program Director, Dr. Melvin Blanchard.

Dr. Cosco is a nationally recognized medical educator who was recruited to WUSM from Emory University. She received her BA in molecular, cellular and developmental biology from the University of Colorado in Boulder, CO and her Medical Degree from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. As a faculty member at Emory University for the past ten years, she served as an Associate Program Director of the Emory University Internal Medicine Residency Program and she directed the Global Health Distinctions Program. She is widely recognized for her role as Director of the Coaching Program at Emory and as Director of the TEACH (Teaching Educators Across the Continuum of Healthcare) Program in the Society of General Internal Medicine. She has also held significant educational and leadership roles in Academic Alliance for Internal Medicine (AAIM) and the Association for Program Directors in Internal Medicine (APDIM). Because of her exceptional skills and expertise, she has received a number of honors and awards for her educational contributions and citizenship.

Dr. Cosco brought significant talents and tremendous enthusiasm to the WUSM/BJH Internal Medicine residency leadership position. She has worked together with the Associate Program Directors and General Medicine faculty to increase ambulatory rotations, improve schedules for the ICU rotations, enhance curriculum development, standardize the evaluation and feedback process to better address key resident competencies and promoted new wellness programs. Dr. Cosco successfully on-boarded our new cohort of interns and is actively engaged in recruiting our future residents for June 2020. She managed the finishing touches on the design of the new space for the Division on the 7th floor of Wohl, including the fitness center and the new resident lounge. Dr. Cosco is fully committed to this role and I have no doubt of her continued success leading our residency program.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Cosco on her new position as the new medicine residency Program Director.
