Dr. Evanoff commentary published in a nationwide population study in Denmark

Congratulations to our Division of General Medicine & Geriatrics Chief, Bradley Evanoff, MD, MPH for his published commentary in Occupational and Environmental Medicine.

The article addressed the analysis of data in a recently published nationwide population study in Denmark titled “Role of female sex and occupational exposures when examining the rates and risks of carpal tunnel syndrome”. Dr. Evanoff’s commentary addressed, at a population level, an issue that is relevant to clinical decision making – the difference between relative vs. absolute risk.

“We specifically discuss how an approach focusing on “relative scales” may ignore interesting results related to the interactions between sex and work-related exposures,” Dr. Evanoff shared. “While a larger percentage of cases were potentially preventable among men, a larger number of cases were potentially preventable among women.”
