Aagaard

Dr. Aagaard’s Research & Scholarship work is in [3] primary areas:

  1. Competency assessment and remediation- In this space, Dr. Aagaard is working with colleagues at CU to complete research on competency in GI procedures using learning curves. Locally, they are developing a new framework for competency assessment in the MD program. She is also working nationally on Milestones in Internal Medicine and at ABMS on remediation planning and development for practicing physicians.
  2. Situational Awareness- Dr. Aagaard is interested in how and when physicians develop situational awareness and how we might assess this. She has worked nationally to develop a tool and is now working with one of our residents to assess the reliability and validity of that tool.
  3. Curriculum development- Dr. Aagaard works locally and nationally on a variety of emerging areas of curriculum development. Currently, she is particularly interested in how we teach social and structural determinants of health. She has worked with a national team to define key areas necessary for instruction at the UME and GME level. She is also very interested in community engaged work and is interested in investigating the impact of such work on student/ resident career development and trajectory.
